5. DRIVE CABLE/BUSHING/FRAME
PIPE
DISASSEMBLY
1. Clean around the frame pipe at the gear case end and engine
end before starting work to prevent dirt from entering the drive
cable and bushing area.
2. Disconnect the frame pipe at the engine end or gear case end.
3. Slide the drive cable, bushing, and bushing stops out of the
frame pipe.
INSPECTION
Replace any damaged, bent, or excessively worn parts as necessary.
1. Clean all related parts.
2. Inspect both ends of the cable for damage, and check the entire
length of the cable for any broken strands.
3. Inspect the bushing for damage and/or distortion.
4. Inspect the frame pipe for damage and/or distortion.
REASSEMBLY
1. Slide the bushing onto the frame pipe.
2. Install the bushing stops.
3. Thoroughly grease the entire length of the drive cable with about
5 g (0.2 oz) of grease and install the drive cable onto the frame
pipe.

4. Install the frame pipe assembly at the engine end and gear case
end.
If the frame pipe was completely disassembled, the frame pipe
installation direction can be determined by measuring the
distance from the end of the pipe to each installation hole.
Short distance = gear case end and installation hole A.
Long distance = engine end and installation hole B.
After installation, apply grease to both ends of the drive cable.
