Set up the TiVo Service
Guided Setup
Guided Setup takes about
20
minutes of your
time, plus 2-3 hours to process the data When - ---- _ •
_
you see this screen, you are ready to begin
Guided Setup. Use the ARROWS and the SELECT
button on the remote The first several screens
ask you simple questions like your program
source, your zip code, and your time zone
First Phone Call
Next the SVR Recorder will make the first toll-free phone call to the TiVo Service
Press SELECT on this screen to start the call This short phone call downloads the
appropriate cable or satellite providers, lineups, and channels for your zip code
If you need to change any of the standard phone dialing options, refer to the TiVo
Viewer's Guide, page 48, and change the settings before the call If the call fails, refer
to the on-screen Troubleshooting Tips, or the Troubleshooting Section of the Setup
Guide
Guided Setup. continued
After the first call is successful, you'll complete the Guided Setup by choosing: your local dial-in number, your cable and/or
satellite provider, channel lineup, and answering questions about how
you've
configured your SVR Recorder, your TV, and
your set-top box (if you have one)
Depending on your input source and the complexity of your configuration, this section
may be shorter or longer Refer to the Setup Guide, page 41 if you have questions or trouble with one of the screens
Guided Setup: Channels you Watch
An important step in Guided Setup is to select the channels you watch TiVo composes a
list of channels and networks based on the lineup you selected
• First scan the list and make sure that the channel numbers and networks on this list
match the channel numbers and networks you see when you watch TV. If you had to
make a guess about your provider or lineup, this is where you will check to be sure
you were right
If you need help, see the Setup Guide, page 47.
• Next, customize your lineup
Make sure that all the channels you receive and watch
are checked Use the ARROWS on the remote to highlight the channel and press
SELECT to check/uncheck it. If you don't receive or never watch a channel, un-check
it Un-checking a channel means that when you change channels up or down, you will skip that channel When you
look for programs to record or use the on-screen guide to see what's on, you will only see the listings for the channels
you have checked
Don't worry - you can easily access this list anytime from the
Messages
&
Setup
menu if you want
to change "Channels You Watch"
Second Phone Call
You are now done with Guided Setup, and the SVR Recorder will next make a second phone call to download your program
listings This call uses the phone line for 10-15 min After the call, the SVR Recorder will import and index the data so that
it is easily searchable by name or by channel
Depending on the number of channels you receive, this may take 1 1/2 to 3
hours. (You won't be able to watch TV during this time unless you have split your video signal or can switch to a different
video source). If the call repeatedly fails because the local dial-in number is busy, press LEFT and choose a different dial-in
number, or try again after 11 at night or the next day before 3 pm (off peak times)
Get Activated
If you have not already done so, now is the time to activate your TiVo Service by visiting our website at
www.tivo.com/activate. or by calling 1-877-FoR-TiVo ( 1-877-367-8486).
