Wireless Network

The Wireless Network menu frame consists of the following items:
Name (SSID). The SSID is the identifying name you give to your wireless network to allow
wireless devices to identify your network among any other wireless networks in the area. The
SSID should be changed from the default (NETGEAR) to a descriptive name for your
network. Choose a name of up to 32 alphanumeric characters with no spaces.
Region. This list shows the countries or regions where your DGFV338 is allowed to operate.
Note: It may not be legal to operate the wireless features of the DGFV338 in a
country or region other those listed. If your country or region is not listed,
check with your local government agency or check the NETGEAR
website for information on which wireless channels you may use.
Channel. Based on the region you selected, this field lists the allowed operating channels and
radio frequencies. The default is Auto, allowing the DGFV338 to choose a channel. Unless
you notice interference problems with another nearby access point, you should not need to
change the wireless channel.
Current Channel No. This read-only field displays the wireless channel being used by the
DGFV338.
Mode. Selects which IEEE 802.11 wireless protocol your wireless network will support:
b only – All 802.11b wireless devices can be used. 802.11g wireless devices can be used if
they can operate in 802.11b mode. The 802.11b protocol operates at data rates up to 11
Mbit/sec.
g only – Only 802.11g wireless devices can be used. The 802.11b protocol operates at data
rates up to 54 Mbit/sec.
g and b – Both 802.11g and 802.11b wireless devices can be used.
The default is g and b which allows both 802.11g and 802.11b wireless devices to access
the DGFV338. The DGFV338 will automatically adjust to the wireless protocol of each
device without compromising the speed of the other devices.
