A watchdog reset has been performed automatically.
Explanation/Action
Your XILON has been placed in an unexpected state in which normal functioning is
no longer possible. A special monitoring component (a so-called "watchdog")
recognizes this situation and automatically resets XILON. Ordinarily this reset will
be performed automatically within 10 seconds; in especially severe cases, it can be
triggered in only 0.5 seconds. In the event of a watchdog reset, the data in the RAM
is lost. When later switching your XILON back on, the word "reboot" (instead of
"restart") will appear in the display; however, this will happen even if the RAM was
empty to begin with, i.e. even if as yet no entries have been made in the RAM.
If you can't turn your XILON on, i.e. if it shows no reaction (the display remains
blank) even after pushing the green ON button, you should consider the following
possible causes:
The battery is dead.
Explanation/Action
You will have to switch your XILON from battery-operation to external power supply.
If this corrects the problem, we recommend then leaving your XILON switched ON
in this condition for two or three hours until the rechargeable battery has been fully
recharged. Because some components (e.g. the real-time clock and the RAM)
require a constant supply of power in order to function properly, the rechargeable
battery loses a small amount of charge even when your XILON has been switched
OFF completely. Thus, if you don't use your XILON for a long period of time (e.g.
several months), the battery can become fully drained even if it was completely
charged to begin with.
Your XILON is switched ON and is functioning properly, but the display's contrast
has been adjusted too low / too high and the screen is therefore blank / black.
Explanation/Action
You must increase/decrease the display's contrast by turning the contrast
adjustment screw located on the right-hand side of the device. You will need a 3-
mm blade to turn the screw.
If the rechargeable battery icon displays a "T" instead of the usual symbols, the
likely cause is as follows:
While attempting to begin a quick charging procedure [using the <F10> hot key,
"set-up general", charge: check symbol (= quick) or minus symbol (= slow)], an
excessively high battery temperature was detected.
