Chapter 10 UPS maintenance
Never dispose of batteries in a fire. Batteries might explode when exposed to flame.
Do not open or mutilate batteries. Released electrolyte is harmful to the skin and eyes
and can be extremely toxic.
Determine if the battery pack is inadvertently grounded. If inadvertently grounded,
remove source from ground. Contact with any part of a grounded battery can result in
electrical shock. The likelihood of such shock can be reduced if such grounds are
removed during installation and maintenance (applicable to equipment and remote
battery supplies not having a grounded supply circuit).
ELECTRIC ENERGY HAZARD. Do not attempt to alter any battery wiring or connectors.
Attempting to alter wiring can cause injury.
Determining how many battery packs are to be replaced
Attention! When the UPS unit issues either battery fault message or the reminder to replace the
batteries after four years is displayed then all battery packs must be replaced!
The UPS unit can not determine which battery is defective.
Mixing old and new batteries in any UPS installation will lead to a thermal destruction of
the UPS unit!
The Lenovo 8 kVA and 11 kVA UPS units (single and three phase) are shipped with a power
module to which a battery module is attached to. The battery replacement procedure for this base
UPS is identical to the battery replacement procedure for an Extended Battery Module. This
battery module is listed as 0 in the
