User Guide
cascading
Multiple MCUs are connected in series at different layers to increase the number of MCU
ports. In cascading mode, an MCU in an upper layer can control an MCU in a lower layer.
CIF
CIF (Common Intermediate Format), also known as FCIF (Full Common Intermediate
Format), is a format used to standardize the horizontal and vertical resolutions in pixels of
YCbCr sequences in video signals, commonly used in video teleconferencing systems. It was
first proposed in the H.261 standard.
conference special service number
This number is defined in conference settings on an MCU. On a video terminal, users can dial
this number to join an ongoing conference to which the terminal has been added as a
participant.
continuous presence
It is a feature in multi-point conferencing that allows the video endpoint to see images from
multiple video endpoints at the same time. All parties remain continuously visible or are
'present' for the duration of the call and the user can have a control over the screen layout.
Continuous presence is better suited for team collaboration since it allows participants to see
the reactions (body language) of all participants, and not just of the speaker.
gatekeeper
"The gatekeeper is an H.323 entity on the LAN that provides address translation and control
access to the LAN for H.323 terminals and gateways. The gatekeeper can provide other
services to the H.323 terminals and gateways, such as bandwidth management and locating
gateways."
intelligently forward
If an MCU detects the packet loss of data streams, the MCU forwards an I-frame request
message sent by the video terminal.
IVR
Interactive Voice Response (IVR) is a technology that allows a computer to detect voice and
dual-tone multi-frequency signaling (DTMF) keypad inputs. IVR technology is used
extensively in telecommunication, but is also being introduced into automobile systems for
hands-free operation. Current deployment in automobiles revolves around satellite navigation,
audio and mobile phone systems. In telecommunications, IVR allows customers to access the
database of a company via a telephone keypad or by speech recognition, after which they can
process their own inquiries by following the instructions. IVR systems can respond with
pre-recorded or dynamically generated audio to direct users on how to proceed. IVR systems
can be used to control almost any function where the interface can be broken down into a
series of simple menu choices. In telecommunications applications, such as customer support
lines, IVR systems can handle large call volumes.
