The original information is an important material for fault diagnosis and analysis.
The analysis of the original information is used for determining the scope and type of a fault.
In the early stage of fault processing, this activity can help reduce the scope of fault and
identify the fault. If you have ample experience in maintenance, you can identify the faults
easily.
10.2.2 Analysis of Warning Information
Warning information refers to the information generated by the warning system. The analysis
of the warning information is used for identifying the actual reason or the cause of the fault.
You can identify the causes of the fault directly by using this activity or by combining it with
other activities. It is preferred to use the warning information to identify the cause of the fault.
10.2.3 Analysis of Indicator Status
On each board of the MCU there are corresponding indicators that indicates different running
statuses of the system. Certain boards have functional indicators or feature indicators. In
addition to indicating the running status of the corresponding board, most of the indicators can
indicate the running status of the circuit, the link, the optical path, the nodes, and the active or
standby board. This activity is an important criterion for analyzing and identifying the fault.
The analysis of the indicator status is mainly for quickly locating the position and the cause of
the fault. This can provide clues for fault processing. The information gathered by this activity
is, however, inadequate; therefore, you need to use the analysis of warning information along
with this activity.
10.2.4 Test/Loopback
Test refers to the measurement of the related technical parameters of the potential failure parts
through apparatus, meters, or software test tools, such as the test of the subscriber line or the
transmission channel. According to the result of the measurement, you can check whether the
equipment has a fault or is on the verge of failure.
Loopback refers to the method of using a hardware or software to test whether a transmission
device or a transmission channel can return a transmitted signal to its source (the process is
also called self-loop). You can use the loopback to determine whether the transmission device
or the transmission channel is working properly considering the service status, the signaling
cooperation, and others.
10.2.5 Comparison/Interchange
Comparison refers to the comparative analysis on failed parts and normal parts. You can use
this activity to find differences and identify the problem. This activity is applicable to cases
where you can find failed parts.
If you fail to determine the scope or position of a fault after you have replaced the potential
failed parts with spare parts, you can use interchange for troubleshooting. Interchange refers
to interchange of parts (such as boards and optical fibers) between the parts in normal state
and the potential failed parts and comparison between the variations of the running status.
This activity is applicable to cases where to find failed parts is difficult.
