Spark Plug Inspection

Inspect the electrodes and ceramic insulator.
Burned or worn electrodes may be caused by;
' A d v a n c e d i g n i t i o n t i m i n g
. L o o s e s p a r k p l u g
. Plug heat range too hot
. Insufficient cooling
F o u l e d p l u g m a y b e c a u s e d b y :
. Retarded ignition timing
' O i l i n c o m b u s t i o n c h a m b e r
. Incorrect spark plug gap
. P l u g h e a t r a n g e t o o c o l d
. Excessive idling/low speed running
' C l o g g e d a i r c l e a n e r e l e m e n t
. Deteriorated ignition coils
Worn or detormed
electrodes

2 . D o n o t a d j u s t t h e g a p o f p l a t i n u m t i p p l u g s ( A ) ;
replace the spark plug if the gap is out of
specification.
Electrode Gap:
Standard (New):1.0 1.1 mm (0.039 0.043 in.)
Service Limit:
1.3 mm (0.015 in.l
R e p l a c e t h e p l u g a t t h e s p e c i f i e d i n t e r v a l , o r i f t h e
center eiectrode is rounded (A). Use only the spark
p l u g s l i s t e d b e l o w .
Spark Plugs:
NGK: PFRTG-l1S
DENSO: PK22PB-L11S
A p p l y a s m a l l q u a n t i t y o f a n t i - s e i z e c o m p o u n d t o
the plug threads, and screw the plugs into the
cylinder head finger-tight. Then torque them to
2 5 N . m ( 2 . 5 k g f . m , 1 8 l b f . f t ) .
