Preparing to Use the Backhoe

Before Operating the Backhoe
Service Interval: Before each use or daily
Important: The backhoe is not a crane and should not
be used as one. Do not use the backhoe as a lifting
device.
WARNING
Bystanders unseen by the operator may be too close
to the machine, and the machine or debris thrown
from the machine may cause serious injury or death.
Before operating the machine in an area with
reduced visibility, install a guardrail and warning
signs to keep others away from the machine.
WARNING
Operating the machine while not seated is
dangerous and could result in serious injury or
death.
Stay in the operator's seat whenever you operate the
machine.
The backhoe can dig more material in less time when you use
a smooth, short dig cycle; keep each dig cycle smooth.
Note: Before you operate the backhoe for the first time, read
and understand these instructions. Then move the machine
to an open area, run the engine at 1/3 throttle, and actuate
each backhoe control lever until each movement is smooth.
1. Check the hydraulic system.
Note: The backhoe operates by means of the
hydraulic system on the traction unit. For information
on checking the hydraulic fluid level and the pressure
and return filters, refer to your traction unit Operator's
Manual.
2. Check all hardware, and torque any loose fasteners as
needed.
3. While the engine is off and the bucket is on the ground,
check all hydraulic hoses for damage or wear.
Note: Check for any hydraulic fluid leaks and ensure
that all hose fittings are tight.
Before Digging with the Backhoe

could come into contact with the machine or thrown
debris, causing serious injury or death.
Be aware of where other workers are in the area,
