Outboard Rigging Guide - 2001

SERVICE PROCEDURES

CHECKING ACTUATOR OPERATION

1) Turn the main switch to ON and adjust the
cable lengths at engine side according to
the following specifications with the remote
control lever at neutral, forward and
reverse position.
Shift
Specification in mm (in.)
Neutral
V4/V6 : 198 mm (7.80 in.)
250-hp : 189 mm (7.40 in.)
Forward
To be shorter than neutral
measurement by 26 (1.02) or over
Reverse
To be longer than neutral
measurement by 26 (1.02) or over
For neutral shift, adjust the length at cable
end in the actuator.
For forward shift, refer to SHIFT STROKE
ADJUSTMENT. Page 10B-32.
WARNING
Before the following checks, be sure that no
person and obstacle are around the out-
board. Propeller may turn if the cable length
is out of the above specifications.
2) Place the remote control lever on forward
and turn the main switch to start to check
that the engine is not started.
Repeat the same check at reverse posi-
tion. In case the engine is started, check
the neutral switch is the neutral control
box.
WARNING
Do not use the outboard in case the engine
is started at either the forward or reverse
shift.
