Outboard Rigging Guide - 2001
Sender Installation
1. Remove the screw plug from the cylinder
head and install the pressure sender. Be care-
ful not to overtighten the sender. The loca-
tion of the plug for each model is shown on
page 5-21 & 5-22:
NOTE: To install the sender on the 30hp cylinder
head cover, drill a 11.5mm (0.453 in) hole, and
cut threads of 14mm x 1.5mm.
CAUTION:
If installing a water temperature sender and a
water pressure sender together on one engine:
Be sure the water pressure sender is installed
on the port side. If it is installed on the star-
board side, the sensor tube could break or
bend.
CAUTION:
After installing the pressure sender, be sure to
check for water leakage. On V4 and V6 models,
also make sure the hose does not interfere with
the flywheel.
2. Bring out the sender tube through the bottom
cowling grommet.
3. Connect the pressure sender to the water
pressure meter by the tube. Clamp the tube to
the hull with clips and screws so it is not flat-
tened or kinked.
Wiring
1. Connect the wires as shown:
NOTE: If an aftermarket instrument light switch
is to be used, connect it as shown. Otherwise, con-
nect the yellow and blue leads together. The
instrument light will then come on when the main
switch is in the ON position.
Maintenance Instructions
1. If the water pressure sensor is clogged with
salt or some other substance, clean it with a
wire.
2. When the boat is kept out of the water for a
long time, drain the water completely out of
the tube.
