Outboard Rigging Guide - 2001
9. Route the throttle cables toward the throttle
cam assembly. Disconnect the links for the
throttle and magneto controls.
10. Remove the throttle cam assembly, with its
bracket, by removing the pivot bolt and 6mm
retaining bolt. Install the throttle cables on
the throttle cam assembly (the "pull" cable is
mounted in the forward position on the
assembly). Make sure the outer cables are
properly attached in the cutouts of the bottom
part of the bracket.
11. Remount the throttle cam assembly and
bracket (setting the throttle at the idle posi-
tion will make this operation easier). Tighten
all bolts, and reattach the links. The throttle
cables will be adjusted after the carburetors
are reinstalled.
12. Locate and install the emergency stop switch
through the front panel, next to the choke.
13. Remove the beauty cover from the front left
corner of the bottom cowling, and install the
starter switch.
14. Remove the 6mm nuts, flat washers, and
clamp that secure the bracket for the wire har-
ness grommet. Pull the battery cable through
the grommet and install it through the new
grommet from the kit. Move the old grommet
and wire harness aside, and install the new
grommet, bracket, clamp, flat washer and
6mm nuts.
15. Locate the new brown wire extension lead
(Part Number: 6H4-82553-00-00) and con-
nect the two wires at either end of it to the
neutral safety switch.
16. Route all wires (from the left side near the
panel) around the front of the bottom cowling
and continue around the cowling to the right
side of the motor, opposite the CDI unit.
Secure these wires (along their route) with
cable ties to keep them clear of moving parts
in the throttle and shift linkages.
17. Reinstall the carburetors, being careful not to
pinch any oil lines. Also, make sure the car-
buretor flange o-rings are properly seated,
and connect the oil pump link, choke sole-
noid shaft (if retained), and the fuel line.
Tighten the six mounting bolts, and install the
air box.
18. Move the shift lever to the forward position.
19. Turn the throttle grip to full open (counter-
clockwise), and check to see that the center of
the throttle roller lines up with the wide-
open-throttle mark on the throttle cam. If they
are not in line, loosen the lock nut on the
"pull" throttle cable, adjust the cable adjuster
until the mark lines up as shown, and retight-
en the lock nut.
