Motor faults

To troubleshoot motor faults:
NOTE: When troubleshooting the motors, hub or
deck, the procedures are basically the same.
1.
Inspect the motor:
For a deck motor fault, sharpen the blades and
remove any debris from motor.
NOTE: If there are any signs of impact damage on a
blade, check the motor for a bent shaft.
For a hub motor fault, check and adjust the
brake pads by following the procedures
described in Chapter 3: Brake and Drive Sys-
tem.
NOTE: Most motor faults will be due to operator
error (overloading the mower and/or dull
mower blades).
2.
Check the fault codes:
2a.
Start the mower.
2b.
With the drive pedals in the neutral position,
depress the function 1 and function 2 buttons
simultaneously and hold them down for 2 - 3
seconds. See Figure 5.45.
NOTE: The VCM will store the ten most resent fault
codes.
2c.
Scroll through the fault codes by depressing
the "Fn" button while depressing the up or
down arrow buttons until a motor fault is seen.
See Figure 5.44.
2d.
Release the "Fn" button.
2e.
Depress the down arrow button twice.
2f.
Match the fault code to the table at the end of
this chapter. Troubleshoot the possible
causes listed for the fault codes shown.
NOTE: Not all motor faults messages will cause a
fault code to be stored in the VCM.
See Figure 5.45.
NOTE: If multiple faults happen simultaneously, the
fault codes are added together:
A code 512 instantaneous phase over current
and a code 32768 instantaneous under voltage
would display a code of 33280.
NOTE: The VCM is a very useful tool to trouble-
shoot motor faults.
