3.
Test run the mower to verify any faults
NOTE: There are several service screens that will
allow the technician to observe the system
conditions and motor performance in real
time.
4.
Depress the down arrow seven times, until the
motor speeds screen appears. See Figure 5.46.
NOTE: This screen will display the speed of all four
motors.
The deck motors should be spinning at the
same speed.
The hub motor speed will vary depending on
the steering angle and drive pedal input.
5.
Depress the down arrow one time. This will bring up
the motor current amps screen.
NOTE: The VCM displays the "phase" current. This
is the current during the "ON" part of the duty
cycle. If an amp clamp meter is placed on
the red power wire going to the controller,
the reading will be lower than the displayed
current because the amp meter will read the
average current draw, not the phase current
draw.
NOTE: Do not try to use an in-line amp meter to
measure the current draw of this system.
The current draw will damage multi-meters.
In-line shunts are calibrated for 12 volts, not
48 volts, they will have incorrect readings.
The deck motors should be within a couple of
amps of each other.
The hub motor current will vary depending on
the driving conditions.
NOTE: If the current draw on one of the motors is
out of line with the expected results, discon-
nect it from its controller and connect it to the
opposite controller (left and right hub or left
and right deck).
If the condition follows the motor, the motor is
bad.
If the condition follows the controller, the con-
troller is bad.
If the condition disappears, it was most likely a bad connection.
