To connect to the supervisor engine uplink ports, follow these steps:
Remove the plugs from the GBIC or SFP optical bores and store them for future
use.
Remove the plugs from the connector on the fiber-optic cable.
GBICs installed in the Supervisor Engine 1 and the Supervisor Engine 2 use SC
connectors. SFP optical tranceivers installed in the Supervisor Engine 720 use
either MT-RJ connectors or LC connectors.
Insert the cable connector into the GBIC or SFP, making sure that both the
transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) fiber-optic cables are fully inserted into the SC
connector.
If you are using the LX/LH GBIC with MMF, you need to install a patch
Note
cord between the GBIC and the MMF cable. See the
on page 2-9
for details.
Do not remove the plugs from the GBIC or SFP optical bores or the fiber-optic
cable until you are ready to connect the cable. The plugs protect the GBIC and
SFP optical bores and cable from contamination.
For GBIC installation information, refer to the Gigabit Interface Converter
Installation Note. For SFP installation information, refer to the Cisco Small
Form-Factor Pluggable Module Installation Notes.
Supervisor Engine 1 and Supervisor Engine 2 do not support the same Flash PC
card format. To use a Flash PC card with Supervisor Engine 2, you must format
the card with Supervisor Engine 2. To use a Flash PC card with Supervisor
Engine 1, you must format the card with Supervisor Engine 1.
