Cisco RISE Integration Overview
This chapter provides an overview of the Cisco Remote Integrated Service Engine (RISE) protocol with an
external service appliance and the Cisco Nexus Series switches.
Cisco RISE is an architecture that logically integrates an external service appliance, such as a Citrix NetScaler
Application Delivery Controller (ADC) appliance appears and operates as a service module within the Cisco
Nexus switch.
The Cisco NX-OS software in which RISE is supported supports the Cisco Nexus Series switches.

The Citrix Netscaler Application Delivery Controller (ADC) is a network switch that performs
application-specific traffic analysis to intelligently distribute, optimize, and secure layer 4 to layer 7 network
traffic for web applications. For example, a Citrix Netscaler Application Delivery Controller (ADC) makes
load balancing decisions on individual HTTP requests instead of on the basis of long-lived TCP connections,
