LINE PRINTER CONFIGURATION
There are four types of line printers available
at four different printing speeds and with either a
64-or 96-ASCII character set. All type printers
offer I 36-column printing and provide for vertical
spacing of six or eight lines per inch. PRF910 I
Vertical Format Unit (VFU), available as an
option for all type printers offered, allows paper
spacing to be controlled by a 12-channel paper
tape to greatly increase format flexibility.
The four types of printers configured for Level
6 system use are shown in Table 7-1. Specifica
tions and prime printer characteristics are des
cribed in Table 7-2.
INTERCONNECTIONS/SYSTEM
INTERF ACE
The line printer interfaces with the system bus
of the Level 6 processor by means of the MDC
(Multiple Device Controller) and line printer
adapter. The MDC9101 controller is a firmware
driven microprogrammed peripheral controller.
Multiple MDCs can be attached to the Level 6
bus, and multiple like adapters and devices can be
attached to any MDC. However, no more than
four peripheral adapters can be attached to any
one MDC. Both the MDC91 Oland PRM91 0 1 are
plug-in printed circuit boards. The MDC contains
the circuitry necessary to support the device
adapter connections. All hardware pertinent to
the printer is contained in the line printer
adapter. Through its adapter, each attached line
printer presents a DMA (Direct Memory Access)
interface to the Level 6 processor. See Figure 7-2.
