SECTION 6
SERIAL PRINTERS
This section describes the functions, character
istics, operating procedures, programming con
siderations, and normal operator maintenance of
the PRU910l and PRU9102 Serial Printers. The
printers are designed to operate as Level 6 system
hardcopy output devices (see Figure 6-1).

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
The PRU9l01 and PRU9102 printers interface
with the Level 6 system by means of a single
board Multiple Device Controller (MDC91 0 1),
and a Printer Device-Pac (PRM91 01).
Both printers' are medium-speed, impact print
ers which use a 5 by 7 dot matrix for character
generation.
The PRU9101 and PRU9l02 printers are
capable of printing 60 lines per minute for a 132
character line and 200 lines per minute in a 20 or
30 character line situation.
SERIAL PRINTERS
The PRU9l0l has a 64 ASCII character set,
with upper case capability only. The PRU9l02
has a 96 ASCII character set with both upper and
lower case capability.
Forms are fed through the printer under the
control of a paper tape which is made by the
operator. This tape has the following capabilities:
space control, top-of-form control, tape reposi
tioning, etc. The operator can create a paper tape
to fit any printing situation or requirement.
OPERATION
The following are the detailed operating pro
cedures and specific user considerations for oper
ating either the PRU910l or PRU9102 printers.
POWER ON/OFF
Pressing the
POWER pushbutton applies
power to the printer (the pushbutton is illumi
nated, indicating that the device is on).
Subsequent depressing of the POWER push
button results in the removal of power from the
device (the light is turned off).
Controls and Indicators
Controls and Indicators associated with the
printers are explained in the following paragraphs.
