How the SRS Indicator Works

The SRS indicator alerts
you to a potential problem
with your front airbags. This
indicator will also alert you to a
potential problem with your
automatic seat belt tensioners (see
page
63
).
You will see the symbol ''
the symbol with a ''CHECK
SYSTEM'' message on the multi-
information display.
On models with side airbags, this
indicator will also alert you to a
potential problem with your side
airbags, the side curtain airbags, or
on some types, passenger's side
airbag automatic cutoff system (see
page
71
).
When you turn the ignition switch to
the ON (II) position, this indicator
will come on briefly then go out. This
tells you that the system is working
properly.

Driver and Passenger Safety
If the indicator comes on at any
other time, or does not come on at all,
you should have the system checked
by your dealer. For example:
If the SRS indicator does not come
on after you turn the ignition
switch to the ON (II) position.
'' or
If the indicator stays on after the
engine starts.
If the indicator comes on or
flashes on and off while you drive.
If you see the symbol (shown in
the previous column) or the
symbol with a ''CHECK SYSTEM''
message on the multi-information
display.
If you see any of these indications,
your airbags may not deploy, your
passenger's side airbag automatic
cutoff system (if equipped) may not
work properly, or your seat belt
tensioners may not work when you
need them. See your dealer as soon
as possible.
Ignoring the SRS indicator
light can result in serious
injury or death if the airbags,
cutoff system, or tensioners
do not work properly.
Have your car checked by a
dealer as soon as possible if
the SRS light alerts you to a
potential problem.
