A powder protection mode is available via A A d d v v a a n n c c e e d d a a n n d d m m a a n n u u a a l l c c o o n n t t r r o o l l s s . This is used when the EBM
Machine is not to be operated for some time. During this process the machine is pumped down and the
chamber is filled with helium in order to protect the powder from humidity.

To prevent humidity pick-up it is advisable to never leave the chamber door open at atmospheric
pressure for longer than absolutely necessary.

The backing system connects the turbo pumps to
the backing pump. The pump is fitted with an ex-
haust silencer/filter. The pump is located near the
cooling system, from where it blows cool air up to
the Electron Beam Unit.
A shut-off valve enables a secure sealing of the
chamber when the system is in idle mode.
A vacuum sensor feeds the EBM Control with ac-
tual pressure. One test port with a valve is placed
in the system to allow for connection of leak
detectors.
The main component of the chamber system is the
turbo pump with the capacity to pump down the
pressure in the chamber to high vacuum.
A vacuum sensor feeds EBM Control with actual
pressure.
An air ventilation valve ventilates the chamber to
atmospheric pressure before the door is opened.
The ventilation is interlocked to prevent ventilation
of the chamber above an unsafe temperature.
