Starting Problems

Problem
Nothing happens when you attempt to
start the engine.
The starter solenoid "Clicks", but the
engine does not crank.
Troubleshooting: Starting Problems
Possible Cause
The traction pedal is not in the N
position, out of adjustment, or faulty.
The battery is discharged.
The battery cables are loose, corroded,
or damaged.
The fuse F1 (20 A) is damaged.
The fuse F3 (10 A) is damaged.
The wire harness fusible link at the
engine starter solenoid is damaged.
The main relay or start relay is
damaged.
The key switch is damaged.
The starter solenoid is damaged.
The battery is discharged.
The battery cables are loose, corroded,
or damaged.
The starter solenoid or starter motor is
damaged.
The starter mounting bolts are loose or
corroded (insufficient ground).

Corrective Action
Move the traction pedal to the neutral
EUTRAL
position.
Check the neutral switch adjustment.
Test the neutral switch.
Charge and test the battery or replace
if necessary.
Clean the battery terminals (posts).
Clean the terminals at the ends of the
battery cables.
Inspect the battery cables and repair or
replace them if necessary.
Test the fuse and replace if necessary.
Test the fuse and replace if necessary.
Test the wire harness fusible link and
repair or replace if necessary.
Test the relays and replace if necessary.
Test the key switch and replace if
necessary.
Test the starter solenoid and replace if
necessary.
Charge and test the battery or replace
if necessary.
Clean the battery terminals (posts).
Clean the terminals at the ends of the
battery cables.
Inspect the battery cables and repair or
replace them if necessary.
Test the starter solenoid and starter
motor and replace if necessary.
Clean the terminals at the ends of the
starter cable.
Inspect the starter cable and repair or
replace it if necessary.
Remove, clean, apply medium strength
thread locking compound and install
the mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to
the specified torque.
