General S afety P recautions
The use of any chain saw may be hazardous. At full
throttle chain speed can reach 45 mph (20 m/s). It
is important that you read; fully understand and ob-­
serve the following safety precautions and warnings.

WARNING !
Reactive forces, including kickback, can be da n-­
gerous. Careless or improper use of any chain saw
may c ause s erious o r f atal i njury.
Have your MAKITA dealer show you how to operate
your c hain s aw. O bserve a ll a pplicable l ocal s afety
regulations, standards and ordinances.
WARNING!
Minors should never be allowed to use a chain
saw.
Bystanders, especially children and animals should
not b e a llowed i n t he a rea w here a c hain s aw i s i n
use ( fig. 1 ).
Never let the saw run unattended.
Store it in a locked place away from children. Fill the
fuel tank to 7/8 th full (see storing the saw).

The o perator
Physical C ondition
You must be in good physical condition and mental
health and not under the influence of any substance
(drugs, alcohol), which might impair vision, dexterity
or j udgment.
WARNING !
Prolonged use of chain saws exposing the operator
to v ibrations m ay p roduce W hitefinger d isease ( Ray-­
naud's phenomenon). This phenomenon reduces
the h and's a bility t o f eel a nd r egulate t emperature,
produces numbness and burning sensations and
may cause nerve and circulation damage and tis-­
sue necrosis.
All MAKITA saws are therefore provided with an an-­
tivibration s ystem w hich i s e ssential f or t hose u sing
chain s aws o n a r egular o r s ustained b asis. A ntivi-­
bration s ystems d o n ot g uarantee t hat y ou w ill n ot
sustain W hitefinger d isesase, h owever, t hey r educe
this danger considerably. Nevertheless, continual
and r egular u sers s hould o bserve t heir h ands a nd
fingers a nd i n c ase o f a ny a bnormal s ymptoms, s eek
medical advice immediately.
