Replacing the starter cable/ Replacing the

Unscrew three screws (1).
Remove fan housing (2).
Remove the air guide (3) from the fan housing.
CAREFUL! Injury hazard! Do not unscrew screw (7) if
the r eturn s pring i s u nder t ension.
If t he s tarter c able i s t o b e r eplaced a lthough i t i s n ot b roken,
it w ill b e n ecessary t o fi rst d e-­tension t he c able d rum r eturn
spring (13).
To d o t his, u se t he g rip t o p ull t he c able a ll t he w ay o ut o f t he
fan housing.
Hold t he c able d rum w ith o ne h and, a nd w ith t he o ther p ush
the c able i nto t he s pace ( 14).
Carefully let the drum turn until the return spring is no longer
under tension.
Unscrew screw (7) and remove the driver (8) and spring
(6).
Carefully r emove t he c able d rum.
Remove a ny c able p ieces.
Thread a new cable (dia. 0.14" (3.5 mm), length 35.4"
(900 mm)) as shown in the illustration (don't forget the washer
(10)) a nd k not b oth e nds a s s hown.
Pull knot (11) i nto t he c able d rum ( 5).
Pull knot (12) into the starter grip (9).
Put the drum on its spindle and turn it slightly until the return
spring engages.
Place the spring (6) in the driver (8) and place them together
in the cable drum (5) while turning slightly counter-­clock-­
wise. Insert screw (7) and tighten.
Guide the cable into the slot (14) on the cable drum and turn
the drum with the cable clockwise three times.

hand u ntwist t he c able, p ull i t t ight a nd h old i t.
Carefully release the cable drum. The spring will wind the
cable a round t he d rum.
Repeat the procedure once. The starter grip should now
stand straight up on the fan housing.
NOTE: W ith t he c able p ulled a ll t he w ay o ut, i t m ust s till b e
possible t o t urn t he p ulley a nother 1 /4 t urn a gainst t he r eturn
spring.
CAUTION: D anger o f i njury! S ecure t he c able g rip w hen

by a ccident.

Disassemble t he f an h ousing a nd c able d rum ( see a bove).

Always w ear e ye p rotection a nd p rotective g loves!
Lightly tap the fan housing on a wooden surface with the
entire surface of the hollow side, and hold i t d own. Now lift
the fan housing carefully a nd i n s mall s teps. This will allow
the return spring pack (13), which should now have fallen out,
to relax in a controlled manner if the return spring has popped
out of the plastic pack.
Carefully insert a new return spring cassette and press
down until it engages.
Place the cable drum on it and turn it slightly until the return
spring engages.
Install the spring (6) and driver (8) and screw on tight with
screw (7).

Replacing t he s tarter s pring
NOTE: If the spring (6) in the Featherlight-­Starting system
is broken, more effort will be required to start the engine
and you will notice some resistance when pulling the starter

cable. If you notice this, check the spring (6) and replace if
necessary.
Mounting t he f an h ousing
Insert the air guide (3) in the fan housing so that the three
recesses (4) engage.
Position the fan housing against the housing, press against it
lightly and pull the starter grip until the starter engages.
Tighten screws (1).
