RAID Levels

The record mode enabling the RAID feature includes several levels. Among the levels, the Onboard
RAID Controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID) supports RAID levels 0, 1, and 10. The Internal
RAID Controller (equivalent to N8103-116A) supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and 50. The
number of hard disk drives required to create a disk group varies depending on the RAID level as
shown in the table below.

RAID 0
RAID 1
RAID 5
RAID 6
RAID 10
RAID 50
* To configure RAID6 using Express Setup, at least four hard disk drives of
same capacity must be installed.
IMPORTANT:

Disk Group

A disk group is configured with more than one HDDs.
The allowable number of disk groups is equal to the number of HDDs.
The figure below shows a sample configuration. The three HDDs are connected to the Onboard
RAID Controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID) or Internal RAID Controller (equivalent to N8103-
116A), creating one disk group (DG).
