When the chain elongates 2 percent over its original length, the chain will no longer
mesh properly with the sprockets and the sprockets will wear. The chain can be
inspected for elongation by measuring the distance between extended pins while the
chain is under tension. The distance between two pins is nominally 1.25-inch. The
distance for twenty pins is nominally 25 inches. If the distance of twenty pins
exceeds 25.5 inches, replacement of the chain is recommended. Excessive chain
elongation is usually due to insufficient lubrication.

Note: It may be necessary to remove chain links if the take-up is fully adjusted.
Every 500 hours: inspect sprockets for worn or broken teeth (poor alignment). Check
sprocket height in the drive and tail end unit to ensure sprockets are properly
positioned and level.
