Using Different LAN Ports for Connecting to the Network and Failover
With this setup, the backup TeraStation and main TeraStation are connected by a second Ethernet cable connecting
their LAN 2 ports. Updating is done over this dedicated network path, so updates are quicker and don't interfere
with normal network traffic.
• LAN Port 1 for Alive Check and LAN Port 2 for Failover
Select the TeraStation labeled "(LAN1)" for "Registered Backup Device" and select "LAN 2" for "Backup LAN Port" in
Settings.
With this connection, the backup TeraStation will take over the IP address of the main TeraStation when the
network error occurred on the side of LAN port 1. However, the communication still available normally using
LAN port 2 so the backup TeraStation detects the IP conflict and the IP address of the main TeraStation will not
be taken over to the backup TeraStation.
• LAN Port 2 for Both Alive Check and Failover
Select the TeraStation labeled "(LAN2)" for "Registered Backup Device" and select "LAN 2" for "Backup LAN Port" in
Settings.
