Alarm Procedures
The APS Channel Byte Failure alarm occurs when LTE detects protection switching byte failure or an
invalid switching code in the incoming APS signal. Some older SDH nodes not manufactured by Cisco
send invalid APS codes if they are configured in a 1+1/LMSP protection group with newer SDH nodes,
such as the ONS 15310-MA SDH. These invalid codes cause an APSB alarm on the
ONS 15310-MA SDH.
Clear the APSB Alarm
Use an optical test set to examine the incoming SDH overhead to confirm inconsistent or invalid K bytes.
Step 1
For specific procedures to use the test set equipment, consult the manufacturer. If corrupted K bytes are
confirmed and the upstream equipment is functioning properly, the upstream equipment might not
interoperate effectively with the ONS 15310-MA SDH.

2.7.8 APSCDFLTK
The APSCDFLTK alarm is not used in the ONS 15310 platforms in this release. It is reserved for
development.
2.7.9 APSCINCON
An APS Inconsistent alarm means that an inconsistent APS byte is present. The SDH overhead contains
K1/K2 APS bytes that notify receiving equipment, such as the ONS 15310-MA SDH, to switch the SDH
signal from a working to a protect path when necessary. An inconsistent APS code occurs when three
consecutive frames contain nonidentical APS bytes, which in turn give the receiving equipment
conflicting commands about switching.
Clear the APSCINCON Alarm
Look for other alarms, especially the
