7. In the event that a problem is detected during either the turn-on test or the
pilot-activated self-test, an error message will appear on the controller. The
error message may indicate a failure of one or more of the following:
Controller
Receiver/Exciter
Power Amplifier
Antenna Coupler
Refer to Paragraph
may not be operational on early production units.

Failure Indications
Various failure messages can be displayed in response to system malfunctions
that are detected by the Built-In-Test. The exact message that is displayed is
dependant on the type of the controller used. For example, when using a RM-855,
a failure results in only an ERROR message being displayed. However a PS440
provides more detailed information as defined below. It is possible that more than
one unit will show as being failed, even if only a single problem exists.
Depending on the nature of the failure, the failure messages that would appear on
a PS440 controller are:
PANEL: Control Panel Failure. If there is a failure internal to the PS440, the
bottom row on the display will show PANEL.
FAIL RXEX: Receiver/Exciter Failure. This indicates a failure in the Receiver
exciter or its interconnections, a loss of DC power to the unit or a loss of
communication between the KRX 1053 Receiver/Exciter and the Controller.
FAIL PA: Power Amplifier Failure. The FAIL PA message indicates a problem
in the KAC 1052, a loss of DC power to the unit or interconnection problems to
that unit.
FAIL CPLR: Antenna Coupler Failure. This indicates a failure in the KAC 1052
Antenna Coupler or its interconnections, a loss of DC power to the unit or
problems in the communication between the Antenna Coupler and the
Receiver/Exciter.
PRS W: Antenna Coupler Pressure Warning. Pressure inside the Antenna
Coupler is significantly below normal. Service should be preformed soon. See
Section "10.A.(2) KAC 1052 Pressurization"
PRS F: Antenna Coupler Pressure Failure. The pressure has been severely
reduced and the transmitter power has been reduced to 50 Watts. The antenna
coupler requires immediate service. See
