3.3 Measure workpiece (milling)
Function
It is generally assumed that the spindle contained in the probe is defined as the master spindle
with machine data or a program command. The probe and machining spindle center
correspond to the programmed axis position.
The behavior of the measuring cycles is set with the following channel-specific machine data:

In the measuring cycle, no SPOS commands are called or non-executable measuring functions
are rejected by means of an alarm message during the cycle runtime.
Note
Calibration
If a probe is not SPOS-capable, or is permanently mounted on the machine, this results in
special requirements for the calibration.
The permissible calibration variants are:
● Calibrating in the ring, with "start point in the center of the ring"
– AUTO mode: SD54760 Bit22 = 1
– JOG mode: SD55740 bit 15 = 1
● Calibration at an edge/between two edges

Measuring probe permanently affixed to the machine

Requirement
● Electronic 3D workpiece probe (multi-probe)
Function
If the measuring probe is permanently affixed to the machine, a mechanical offset may exist
in the three geometry axes:
● between the measuring probe ball (tool tip)
● the tool reference point of the machining spindle
● and the machining medium (laser)

Meaning
Spindle is SPOS-capable (default)
Independently of the spindle characteristic, only
measurement functions without spindle position‐
ing are carried out by the measurement cycles.
The programming of the measurement cycles is
done exactly as it is done with a positionable
probe. All of the functions that require a positiona‐
ble spindle cannot be selected in the measure‐
ment cycle input screens.
