3.3 Measure workpiece (milling)
Note
Kinematics can only be corrected when no persistent transformation is active. In this case, the
kinematics can be measured with "Measuring only". The resulting vectors can be read with
the _OVR[1] to _OVR[20] parameters.

Mounting the calibration sphere

For machines, the calibration sphere must be mounted on the machine table. In order to
measure kinematics for swivel-mounted workholders, the sphere must be incorporated into
the appropriate workholder. In all cases it must be ensured that the probe can approach and
bypass the mounted calibration sphere without collision in all the selected rotary axis positions.
Considering the need to avoid collisions, the calibration sphere should be mounted as far as
possible from the center of rotation of the rotary axis that is to be measured.
Note
While measuring a rotary axis, the mechanical attachment of the calibration sphere must not
be changed.
Positioning the rotary axes
The user specifies the range to be measured for each rotary axis as well as the number of
measuring points within this range. The measuring range should match the later machining
range.
CYCLE9960 calculates the rotary axis positions to be approached in the specified measuring
range. The positioning direction of the rotary axes to be measured is DEFINED IN THE
MATHEMATICAL POSITIVE DIRECTION OF ROTATION.
A reference measurement is always performed first in the initial state (usually 0°). If the initial
state is included in the specified measuring range, it is not measured again.
To measure the interpolation points, the initial state must be a point included in the measuring
range. The measuring range must not exceed 360°. As many measuring points are approached
as specified.
With Hirth toothed axes, the measuring positions are rounded off to match the grid.
Example 1
Starting angle = -90°, end angle = 0°, number of measuring points = 3 (kinematics)
Measuring point 1 = 0°, measuring point 2 = -90°, measuring point 3 = -45°
