Starting Problems

NOTE: Check Diagnostic Light (serial number below
312000000) or InfoCenter display (serial number above
312000000) for possible operator advisories or faults
whenever diagnosing machine electrical problems.
Problem
Starter solenoid clicks, but starter will not crank
(if solenoid clicks, problem is not in safety interlock
system).
Nothing happens when start attempt is made.
NOTE: If diagnostic light or InfoCenter light is blinking
and machine functions are inoperable, a 48V
precharge fault may exist. In this instance, disconnect
reel motor cables one at a time to see if a reel motor is
the cause of the problem. If light continues to blink
after all motors are disconnected, generator controller
may be faulty or 48V battery pack polarity may be
incorrect.
Electrical System
Possible Causes
12VDC battery cables are loose or corroded.
12VDC battery ground to frame is loose or corroded.
12VDC battery is discharged or faulty.
Wiring at starter is loose or faulty.
Starter mounting bolts are loose or not supplying a
sufficient ground.
Starter solenoid is faulty.
Starter motor is faulty.
Functional control lever is not in the NEUTRAL
position.
The parking brake is disengaged and the operator seat
is unoccupied.
12VDC battery cables are loose or corroded.
12VDC battery is discharged or faulty.
Fuse(s) is (are) faulty (see Fuse Block in the
Component Testing section of this chapter).
The fusible link harness at the engine starter motor is
faulty (see Fusible Links in the Component Testing
section of this chapter).
Wiring to the start circuit components is loose,
corroded or damaged (see electrical schematic in
Chapter 10 -- Foldout Drawings).
Neutral switch is out of adjustment or is faulty.
The ignition switch or circuit wiring is faulty.
Starter solenoid or circuit wiring is faulty.
Main power relay or circuit wiring is faulty.
Fuse block is faulty.
TEC controller is faulty.
