Using additional possibilities
The IED is a multifunctional device. This enables the use of configuration tool ACT in order to
achieve special requirements which are required for catenary distance protection. Following are
some typical examples:
Higher zones (e.g. Z2 and/or Z3) can be enabled by dU/dt or dI/dt criteria. That can be arranged
inside of IED by using appropriate configuration.
In AT installations, second harmonic blocking may be required for higher zones in order to
restrain the catenary during energizing of the feeder or auto-reclosing attempt. That can be
arranged inside of IED by using D2PTOC function to calculate second harmonic blocking
condition and appropriate configuration. Care shall be taken at which level the second harmonic
block shall be set. Typical value is approximately 40%.
Cooperation with auto-reclosing function is very flexible. By using configuration tool ACT, it can
easily be controlled which zones/functions shall start the auto-reclosing cycle and which one
shall inhibit it.
All of the above blocking/enabling can be made settable using GATE function blocks. In such
cases, a special screen can be engineered on the local HMI in order to provide an overview of
which blocking is enabled and active.
