Despite all precautions and safety measures built into the machine some dangers may remain.
Potential remaining dangers are, but not limited to:
• Electric equipment
• Appearance of electrostatic discharges
• Bursting of compressed air lines
• If the build table drive belt is to be removed, first ensure that the powder table is in its highest
position to reduce the risk of pinching.
• Do not exceed the maximum weight limit for the trolley. A hopper has a net weight of 16 kg
and a volume of 24 l.
• The calibration plate needs to cool down before it is removed from the build chamber. Arcam
recommends checking the temperature of the upper calibration surface with a measuring
device.
• The consumable parts have sharp edges that can cause cutting injuries.

The vacuum chamber and column is highly sensitive to all kinds of contaminations. Always use
powder free latex gloves or similar when handling parts exposed to vacuum.
Temperature resistant grease have to be used. Vacuum grease, Vac1, is provided with the ma-
chine. Always change gloves after using/applying vacuum grease.
All parts that are exposed to vacuum in the chamber are to be kept free from fingerprints, hair, moisture, oil
and other impurities. Non-compliance can lead to losses in efficiency and prolonged pumping times. The
risk for arc trips and interrupted builds is also increased. Always use gloves when working inside the cham-
ber or with chamber parts and keep the vacuum chamber parts free from metallisation.

• Reuse dirty heat shields, cones, foils or glass. Don't reuse any dirty or metallised consumables.
• Use dirty tools.
• Place chamber parts on dirty surfaces.
Avoid keeping the vacuum chamber door open for longer periods than 1 1 5 5 m m i i n n . Control the humidity in the
machine environment to avoid oxygen pick-up in the powder. Long term oxygen pick-up in the powder
might lead to material specification deviations. The oxygen pick-up in the powder, on the chamber walls
and chamber parts makes it easier for smoke to occur, since oxygen in the chamber migrates to the powder
during the build process. Humidity also prolongs pumping times and increases risk for arc trips.
