If there is any doubt about X-radiation shields, not being in place or broken, the use of the EBM
Machine should be aborted immediately and Arcam EBM Service should be consulted.
C C a a u u t t i i o o n n
X-radiation (composed of X-rays) is emitted when the electrons accelerated in the column hit an-
other object.
When the Electron Beam Unit is in idle mode, no X-radiation is generated.
The EBM Machine is designed to keep X-radiation levels below limits indicated in EC Directive
96/29, EurAtom (1 µSv/hour).
To ensure satisfactory X-radiation protection all machine parts, internal and external must remain
in position. Removing or replacing parts such as; screws, bolts, metal plates or glass windows
might cause X-radiation leakage from the system.
C C a a u u t t i i o o n n
The system must NOT be modified by the user. Any modification can lead to X-radiation leakage
and must be checked by a radiation survey.
N N o o t t e e
It is the responsibility of the end user to perform the X-ray emission test on the Arcam EBM ma-
chine. This is done annually and after change of material type (metal powder).
Always perform an X-ray test after change of material type (metal powder) in the EBM machine.
