Equipment Overview: Theory of Operation
Access to unassigned receivers can be allocated to certain units similarly to the way
receivers are reserved, but the following exceptions apply:
The number of unassigned receivers a unit can use is determined by how many
receivers are not already reserved - AND/OR - not already used up by an admit.
A unit given access to unassigned receivers cannot use any receivers reserved
for a different unit, even if they are not in use.
Once all receivers in a tower are either reserved or in use, a unit having access
to unassigned receivers cannot admit to the tower.
A possible reserved/unassigned receiver scenario would be as follows:
1.
A tower with 16 receivers has 8 reserved for unit A. Units B and C are listed to
access the remaining 8 unassigned receivers. Additionally, Unit A is NOT listed
as having permission to access the remaining 8 unassigned receivers.
2.
Unit A uses it's 8 reserved receivers regardless of how many other receivers are
in use, but can only use up to 8 and no more.
3.
Unit B admits 4 patients. These admits use up 4 of the unassigned receivers,
leaving 4 still available.
4.
Unit C admits 4 patients. These admits use up the remainder of the unassigned
receivers.
5.
Units B and C try to admit again, but cannot (all receivers are either reserved or
in use).
6.
If another tower is available, and Units B and C have the appropriate access, the
admits take place at this other tower.
7.
Unit B discharges 2 patients, making 2 receivers available.
8.
Unit C admits 2 patients. All receivers are again either reserved or in use: Unit
A has 8 (all reserved), Unit B has 2, and Unit C has 3.
The modify receiver PTSCONFIG command is used to maintain a configuration list
at each tower for reserved and unassigned receiver allocations and their associated
units.
The configuration list indicates how many receivers are reserved for specific units.
The list also indicates whether specific units can admit to unassigned receivers.
Units can have both reserved receivers and access to unassigned receivers.
See
"ptsconfig Modify Receiver Command"
information about using the modify receiver PTSCONFIG command.
