Connecting Cables for SIPROTEC 4 and SIPROTEC 5 Devices

2.3.1
The internal clocks of SIPROTEC devices are synchronized using IRIG B or DCF77 telegrams. In addition, special
applications require the parallel transmission of a high-precision second pulse.
For SIPROTEC 3 devices, there are no preconfigured bus cables.
For SIPROTEC 4 and SIPROTEC 5 devices, preconfigured cables for various applications are available.
The following connecting cables are available for connecting protection devices:
Y bus cable (7XV5104-0AAxx):
A cascadable bus cable to transmit IRIG B or DCF77 telegrams for connecting up to 6 protection devices
Y bus cable (7XV5105-0AAxx):
A cascadable bus cable to transmit IRIG B or DCF77 telegrams and the high-precision second pulse for
connecting up to 6 protection devices
In addition to the Y bus cables, there is the preconfigured T adaptor cable (7XV5104-3AA00). The T adaptor
cable distributes signals across 2 buses for connecting a maximum of 6 devices per bus.
NOTE
i
i
You cannot connect any protection devices using the T adaptor cable! The T adaptor cable is only used to
distribute signals across 2 buses.
Using preconfigured bus cables prevents wiring errors on the bus for time synchronization.
You can find examples of typical applications starting in chapter

2.3.2
The serial Y bus cable (IRIG-B cable) 7XV5104-0AAxx is used for time synchronization of SIPROTEC 4 or
SIPROTEC 5 devices. The serial Y bus cable connects the pins 1/3 via the 9-pole interface X1 of the Sync-Trans-
ceiver to the IRIG-B interfaces of the SIPROTEC 4 devices (Port A) or the SIPROTEC 5 devices (Port G).

2.3.3
The 9-pole D-sub socket of the Sync-Transceiver X1 provides both input channels separately on 2 electronic
semiconductor outputs. The time synchronization of the SIPROTEC 4 or SIPROTEC 5 devices uses the pins 1/3
on X1 of the Sync-Transceiver.
The periodic second pulse is issued on the pins 4/8 on X1 of the Sync-Transceiver. The high-precision time
synchronization is relevant for example for differential protection applications.
For connection to Port A of the SIPROTEC 4 devices or to Port G of the SIPROTEC 5 devices, the special Y bus
cable 7XV5105-0AAxx, which transmits both signals, can be used for time synchronization.
