2.4 UNIT DESCRIPTION

The 86445-32 2W FXS/PLAR unit supports two independent analog telephone
lines. For each provisioned line, it uses one DS0 channel on a JVT bus.
The unit occupies one shelf slot in a JungleMUX equipment shelf and comprises
087-86445-32 circuit assembly board. The board comprises two line interface
circuits, 68CK16Z1 microcontroller, Xilinx Spartan XCS30/XL FPGA, 128Kbyte
RAM (U6), 256Kbyte flash EEPROM (U7), clock synchronizer and multiplier
circuit (U11), temperature monitor (U5), 5 V to 3.3V voltage converter (U19),
front-panel components and system interface components.
Each line interface circuit is comprised of Si3210M ProSLIC device (U13 and
U18), Si3201 linefeed interface ICs (U12 and U17) and DC-DC converter circuit.
The ProSLIC device integrates SLIC (subscriber line integrated circuit), PCM
Coder/Decoder and DC-DC converter control functions. Two DC-DC converter
circuits generate talk battery and ringing voltages from +5 Vdc shelf power
supply.
The 86445-32 2W FXS unit is capable of a local loopback that ignores the
incoming signal from the far end and loops back the incoming local signal to the
local end. The unit is also capable of a line loopback that ignores the local
incoming signal and loops back the far-end receive digitized VF signal to the
remote end.
All user connections (Tip and Ring for each of the two lines) are made on the 4-
pin terminal block available on the 86445-92 paddleboard.

to the terminal block, the paddleboard comprises protection devices for each line
– TeleLink fuses (F1, F2, F3 and F4) and Dual SLIC Protectors (U1 and U2).
A simplified Block Diagram has been included at the end of this section and can
be used as a reference for the following signal paths analysis; however, the user
should refer to schematics EAS-86445-32 for complete circuit descriptions.
