11.
Turn on the Motor Power keyswitch and scan the heads for ten minutes.
Recheck the head alignment at both ends of the scanner. Readjust after
shutting off the Motor Power keyswitch using the above procedures, if
necessary.
Adjusting head MD alignment and gap
To adjust the head machine direction (MD) alignment and gap:
1.
Scan the heads to the offsheet position at the cable end of the
scanner.
2.
Turn off the Motor Power keyswitch.
3.
Insert the head alignment pins in the holes provided in the head sheet guides.
They should be free to move vertically with little or no restriction.
4.
If head alignment adjustment is required, loosen the four upper nuts on the
lower head interface plate.
5.
Move the head in the MD direction so the alignment pins drop through the holes
in the lower head. If CD alignment adjustment is also necessary.
6.
Once the heads are aligned, check the head gap using the spacer bars supplied
with the system. Place the bars in the gap, in the MD direction, against the head
alignment pins.
7.
Adjust the nuts on the lower head interface plate so the gap bars are touching
both the upper and lower sheet guides but can be moved with little restriction.
Make sure the heads are touching both MD ends of the spacer bars so that the
heads are parallel to each other.
8.
Tighten the four nuts on the lower head interface plate while also checking that
the gap has not changed. Keep the head alignment pins installed to prevent MD
misalignment during this process.
9.
Recheck MD and CD head alignment at both ends of the scanner. Repeat the
procedures if necessary to obtain a good alignment.
10.
Remove the head alignment pins.
11.
Run a profile correction for the sensors that need it
Replacing head drive belts
It is good practice to change both the upper and lower belts at the same time. Check to ensure
that the new belts are a minimum length of twice the beam length plus 3m (10 ft) before
proceeding.
To replace the head drive belts:
1.
Send the heads offsheet to the cable end of the scanner.
2.
Turn off the Motor Power keyswitch.
3.
Remove the upper and lower beam covers
4.
remove both ends of the upper belt from the belt tighteners where they are
mounted to the head carriage belt support bracket and remove the belt from
the scanner.
5.
Lay the old belt on the floor next to the new belt, and cut it to the same length.
6.
Feed the new belt through the pulleys and re-wrap it around the belt
tighteners at the belt support bracket. Refer to assembly drawings.
