Usage Guidelines
The TCP connection operation is used to discover the time required to connect to the target device. This
operation can be used to test virtual circuit availability or application availability. If the target is a Cisco
router, IP SLAs make a TCP connection to any port number specified by the user. If the destination is a
non-Cisco IP host, you must specify a known target port number (for example, 21 for FTP, 23 for Telnet,
or 80 for an HTTP server). This operation is useful in testing Telnet or HTTP connection times.
You must enable the IP SLAs responder on the target router before you can configure a TCP Connect
operation.
