A USB memory stick can be used without problems on a PC, whereas it cannot be used to
run a CMC package on an NCU. This may be due to the partitions or the file system on the
USB memory stick.
Prerequisite
Observe the following information about formatting a USB memory stick:
● No special program is required on a Windows PC
● Administrator rights are required
Formatting a USB memory stick
Carry out the following instructions if your USB stick does not start with a CMC package on an
NCU or if similar problems arise:
diskpart
list disk
sel disk <n>
clean
create part primary
format quick fs=fat32 label="CMC"
On a Windows PC, you enter the instructions at the command prompt. On LINUX PCs, use
other options such as "gparted".
Procedure
1. Open the command prompt on the Windows PC and enter diskpart. The utility for
partitioning hard disks and removable data storage media is started in a new window. It is
possible that a Windows UAC prompt will appear, which you must confirm with "Yes".
2. The data storage media detected are displayed after you enter list disk. Here, you
must find out the number of the data storage medium on the basis of the USB memory stick's
memory capacity. In our example, it is data storage medium 1.
3. Sel disk 1 selects this data storage medium. You must use the right number on the
basis of your existing data storage medium.
4. clean erases the data storage medium chosen via the number. All data on it is erased!
5. create part primary creates a primary partition on the data storage medium.
6. format quick fs=fat32 label="CMC" runs fast formatting with fat32. The stick is
given the name "CMC".

A data storage medium that you did not want could be destroyed if you specify a wrong
number.
