Icemaker NTC (R30/21)
When this NTC, located under the ice-cube drawer (catch bin) reaches 5°F
(-15°C), ice-cube dispensing is initiated via the electronic. Subsequently, the
solenoids are activated and water intake started. This NTC also protects the
icemaker from emitting too much heat into the freezer.

Ice Cube Production
1. The ice-cube drawer (catch bin) must be inserted. Insertion is monitored
by an optical sensor (Figure 032-3) located behind the spring-loaded
switch cover at the rear of the icemaker.
2. The ice-cube tray shifts into the home position, the water valves energize,
and water flows in.
3. Water freezes until NTC R30/21 drops below 5°F (-15°C), then there is a
15-minute pause.
4. The icemaker motor energizes. The ice tray spins 180 degrees and the
heating element under the tray turns on. The ice cubes drop out of the
tray into the catch bin. There is a second optical sensor to monitor if ice
cubes have fallen. This sensor also monitors for a full catch bin and shuts
down ice making.
5. The icemaker motor drives the ice tray back to its home position when all
ice has dropped so that water can flow in again.
The optical sensor consists of an infrared transmitter (LED) (Figure 032-3,
Item 1) and a receiver (Figure 032-3, Item 2). If the ice-cube drawer is
inserted, light is sent from the transmitter to the receiver, and ice cubes are
produced. If the drawer is full of ice cubes, the light signal is blocked by the
ice cubes and ice-cube production is stopped.

Water Filter
The water filter must be replaced after a prescribed amount of time or water
used (about every 6 months, but it depends on how many ice cubes are
produced). Filter replacement notification occurs in 2 stages.
Stage 1: After 23 weeks of runtime or 665 gallons (2520 liters) of water the
