Figure 1. Headstock components.
A. Spindle Adjustment Knob: Allows hand
rotation of spindle to check clearances before
powering up lathe.
B. Spindle Speed Dial: Controls spindle speed.
Always turn dial to lowest setting before start-
ing lathe.
C. ON/OFF Paddle Switch w/Disabling Key:
Turns lathe motor ON and OFF. Remove
yellow disabling key to prevent unauthorized
operation of machine.

D. Quill Adjustment Knob: Moves quill toward
or away from spindle.
E. Quill Lock Handle: Secures quill in position.

Quill: Holds centers or tooling. Can be
