Receiving a Fax

About Receiving Modes

NOTE: To use the Ans/Fax mode, attach an answering machine to the Phone Jack (
back of your printer.
NOTE: If you do not want other people to view your received documents, you can use the secure
receiving mode. In this mode, all received faxes are stored in the memory. For further details,
see page 136.
Fax mode: The machine answers an incoming call and automatically goes into receive
mode. The ring count that needs to go into receiving is set in the System Data. If the
user memory is full, the machine is changed to Tel mode.
Tel mode: Automatic fax reception is turned off. You can receive a fax by picking up
the handset of the extension phone and then pressing the remote receive code (refer to
the User's Guide ), or press <On Hook Dial> (you can hear voice or fax tone from the
remote machine) and then pressing <Send Fax> on the operator panel of your
machine.
Ans/Fax mode: The machine can share one phone line with TAD (Telephone
Answering machine). In this mode, TAD will pick up the phone and machine will
monitor the FAX signal (CNG), and it catch line if there is FAX Tone.
DRPD mode: One of service of Exchanger is Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection.
Before service, User should program machine to distinguish Fax No. The machine will
go to reception if it detect Fax Ring Pattern. In some country, machine does not
support it. This option is available only when you set up the
details, see page 125.
When the memory is full, the receiving mode automatically switches to Tel.

Loading Paper for Receiving Faxes

The instructions for loading paper in the paper tray are the same whether you are printing,
faxing, or copying, except that faxes can only be printed on Letter-, A4-, or Legal-sized
paper. For details about loading paper, see page 17 and setting the paper type and size in the
