Chapter 4
Setup
This chapter explains how to setup the ETERNUS2000.
You may contact your sales representative or your maintenance engineer to perform this steps, or alterna-
tively perform them by yourself.
CAUTION
4.1

Prior Preparation

The following preparations are required before starting the ETERNUS2000 setup:
Network settings
Determine the following network settings:
IP address and subnet mask for the ETERNUS2000's MNT port (required)
Default IP address:
Default subnet mask 255.255.255.0
IP address and subnet mask for the ETERNUS2000's RMT port
No default value is set.
This setting is required if the remote support connection is to be independent of the customer network.
Gateway IP address
No default value is set.
IP address for the PC
Prepare an IP address for the PC (FST: Field Support Terminal) used by your maintenance engineer.

Do
• Before starting, make sure to attach a wrist strap or touch the metal
frame of the device to eliminate static electricity. Failure to discharge
static electricity may cause device failure.
• When the disk drive is brought from a cold to a warm place, there is a
chance that the change in temperature can result in condensation
forming on the magnetic platters. Wait for the disk drives to warm up
to the local ambient temperature before turning the ETERNUS2000
on.
