7.5 PROGRAMMING
The following example uses the following motor data and should be referred to as the example progresses.
The data is for a 400 hp 4000 V ring-type motor. We will assume that all of the optional features available with
the SPM have been installed. The following pages show the keypresses made by the operator, the SPM dis-
play response, and comments concerning the programming operation. The SPM READY message should be dis-
played at the beginning of the operation. Refer to Chapter 7 for programming the SPM for brush-less motors.
Motor: 400 hp, PF = –0.8, 720 RPM, 4000 V.
Induced field current: 0% SPD, 30 A; 95% SPD, 17 A.
Recommended field discharge resistance: 21 Ω
Allowable stall time: 7 seconds
50 percent run time: 11 seconds.
The induced field voltage (product of induced field in amperes and discharge resistance in ohms)
must fall between 200 and 1000 V at both zero and 95% speed. For this example:
21 Ω × 30 A = 630 V (zero speed check)
NOTE
21 Ω × 17 A = 357 V (95% speed check)
The criterion is thus met for this example.

Press SELECT/ENTER key to enter setpoint menus
First setpoint is PF TRIP. SCROLL Key(s) to select value of -0.85
and then SELECT/ENTER key to accept new value.
Change existing value of PF TRIP to new –0.85 value.
