M IDI is a n a cronym tha t sta nds for M usica l Instrument Digita l Interfa ce, w hich a llow s electronic m usica l
instrum ents to comm unica te w ith ea ch other, by sending a nd receiving compa tible N ote, Control
Cha nge, Progra m Cha nge a nd va rious other types of M IDI da ta , or messa ges. The AN 1 x ca n control a
M IDI device by tra nsm itting note rela ted da ta a nd va rious types of controller da ta . The AN 1 x ca n be
controlled by the incoming M IDI messa ges w hich a utoma tica lly select M IDI cha nnels, voices a nd effects,
a nd cha nge pa ra meter va lues.

MIDI messag es can be divided into two g ro ups: Channel
messag es and System messag es. Belo w is an explanatio n
o f the vario us types o f MIDI messag es which the AN 1 x
can receive and transmit.
1 . CHAN N EL M ESSAGES
Channel messag es are the data related to the perfo rmance
o n the keybo ard fo r the specific channel.

Messag es which are g enerated when the keybo ard is
played.
Receptio n no te rang e = C-2 (0 ) - G 8 (1 2 7 ), C3 = 6 0
Velo city rang e = 1 - 1 2 7 (O nly the N o te O n velo city is
received)
N o te O n: G enerated when a key is pressed.
N o te O ff: G enerated when a key is released.
Each messag e includes a specific no te number which
co rrespo nds to the key which is pressed, plus a velo city
value based o n ho w hard the key is struck.
Control Cha nge
Co ntro l Chang e messag es let yo u select a vo ice bank,
co ntro l vo lume, panning , mo dulatio n, po rtamento time,
brig htness and vario us o ther co ntro ller parameters, thro ug h
specific Co ntro l Chang e numbers which co rrespo nd to
each o f the vario us parameters.

Messag es which co ntro l vibrato depth using the
Mo dulatio n W heel.
Setting the value to 1 2 7 pro duces maximum vibrato
and 0 results in vibrato o ff.

Messag es which co ntro l the duratio n o f po rtamento , o r
a co ntinuo us pitch g lide between successively played
no tes.
W hen the parameter Po rtamento Switch is set to o n,
the value set here can adjust the speed o f pitch
chang e. Setting the value to 1 2 7 pro duces maximum
po rtamento time and 0 results in minimum po rtamento
time.

Messag es which set the value fo r the parameter
specified by RPN MSB/ L SB. Parameter value is
determined by co mbining MSB and L SB.

Messag es which co ntro l the vo lume o f the AN 1 x.
Setting the value to 1 2 7 pro duces maximum vo lume
and 0 results in vo lume o ff. The messag e 0 0 7 (Main
Vo lume) will be transmitted using an o ptio nal co ntro ller
co nnected to the FO O T VO L UME jack o n the rear
panel acco rding to the facto ry-set.
