Phase Alternation Line. European TV format.
Parity
A process for detecting whether bits of data (parts of characters) have been altered
(error detection) during transmission of that data.
PCMCIA
Personal Computer Memory Card International Association. The PCMCIA Card
standardizes credit-card size packages for memory and input/output (modems, LAN cards,
and so on) for computers, laptops, palm-tops. There are three types of PCMCIA Cards:
A Type 1 PC Card is typically used for various types of memory enhancements,
including RAM, FLASH memory, one-time programmable (OTP) memory, and
electronically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM).
A type II PC Card—the most common—is typically used for input/output such as
modem, LANs, host communications and SCSI device connections.
A type III PC Card is twice the thickness of the Type II and is typically used for
input/output features that require a larger size, such as rotating mass storage devices
(removable hard disk drives) and radio communication devices.
POS
Point of Service. A point of sale device such as a credit card scanner used for
authorization when a purchase is made.
PTZ
Pan Tilt Zoom. Camera adjustment functions.
QNX
A Unix-like operating system.
RAID
Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks. A RAID device allows you to write your data
over disk drives in a single housing in such a way that if you lose one or more of the drives,
you won't lose any of your data; that is, the data can be retrieved from the remaining drives.
RAS
Remote Access Software. An application that allows you to send and receive data to
and from a computer or to use a computer to control terminals, PCs or peripheral devices
connected through communications (usually phone) links.
RCA
Regional Calling Area. The geographical area covered by a telephone company.
RMA
Return Merchandise Authorization Number. Contact Honeywell Customer Service.
SCSI
Small Computer System Interface. A device that allows other devices to
communicate with the main processor of a computer.
Subnet Mask
A number used to identify a subnetwork so that an IP address can be shared
on a LAN.
SUU
Software Update Utility.Aa Windows-based application that writes the data to the
HRDVS16/8 memory via an RS232 connection and updates the flash in a one-load
operation.
