Lathe Bearing
Preload
Note: Lathe spindle end-play can be felt when
attempting to move the spindle toward and away
from the headstock.

To adjust the lathe spindle bearing preload:

Note: You may have to tap on the outboard
spindle tube as explained in Step 6 to help
unload the spindle preload and break the
spanner nut loose.
