PARAMETER 21:
RTS
Programming Procedures:
When PARAMETER 20 is entered, [DTR HANDSHAKE OFF] will be
displayed with [OFF] flashing. Toggling between [ON] and [OFF] is
accomplished by pressing the NEXT key or the MANUAL/PREVIOUS key.
Advancing to Next Parameter:
After programming PARAMETER 20, press the N key to advance to
PARAMETER 21 – the next parameter in Category C.
The CP-220A displays the parameter just programmed ([PARAMETER
NUMBER 20]) with its first digit flashing, indicating its request for the
next parameter number. Press either:
• 2 then 1 , or
• then

RTS HANDSHAKE OFF MM/DD/YY HH:MM:SS
Background:
Like PARAMETER 20, PARAMETER 21, if enabled, provides the CP-220A
with a basic means of verifying that the Automation System's computer is
capable of communicating with it – by monitoring another voltage level
known as RTS (Request to Send). Although somewhat more complex than
the DTR technique found in PARAMETER 20, it still relies on the presence
of a voltage level from the computer to indicate that communication
between the two devices is possible. Before enabling PARAMETER 21, be
sure that the Automation System's computer is capable of providing a
sustained RTS level for use by the CP-220A for this purpose.
The default, [RTS HANDSHAKE OFF], must be used under any of the
following conditions:
• when there is no Automation System present
• if such supervision is not desired
• if the Automation System does not provide a DTR voltage level
for use by the CP-220A
NOTE: Here, RTS refers to Request to Send – the term used by the RS-232
protocol – to indicate the readiness of the CP-220A to receive data
from the Automation System's computer. See page 2-74 for
additional information pertaining to RS-232, and PARAMETER 20
for additional details on this parameter.
