IP (Internet Protocol) The TCP/IP standard protocol that defines the IP datagram as
the unit of information passed across an Internet and provides the basis for
connectionless packet delivery service. IP includes the ICMP control and error
message protocol as an integral part. It provides the functional equivalent of ISO
OSI Network Services.
IP address The 32-bit address assigned to hosts that wants to participate in a TCP/
IP Internet. There was another method called UUCP (UNIX to UNIX Copy), but the
available services were limited with this method. There are two types of IP connection;
dial up IP connection and IP connection via a leased line. IP connection using a
leased line is the most effective way to get connected, but the cost are also higher.
IP datagram The basic unit of information passed across a TCP/IP Internet.
IPX/SPX (Internetwork Packet Exchange/Sequenced Packed Exchange)
Thenetwork and transport level protocols used by Novell NetWare, which together
correspond to the combination of TCP and IP in the TCP/IP protocolsuite.
ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) The 8/16-bit bus architecture originally developed
by IBM and now standard in almost all PCs that use Intel's 8086 and 80X86 chips.

JBIG (Joint Bi-Tonal Image Group) JBIG is an international standard compression
algorithm for black and white (bi-tonal) and gray scale image information. JBIG is a
lossless compression algorithm - there is no change to the image information during
the compression/decompression process. The improved compression results strictly
from the advanced computational nature of the algorithm. JBIG's advanced
compression capability improves the efficiency of image storage and image
transmission. This directly translates into real cost savings to end users. A 100%
improvement in compression means that users can cut media, disk drive, jukebox
and network bandwidth-related costs in half.
